May 9th - Grinnell, IA, to Los Angeles, CA, by airplane - 1500 miles

This has been a long day. My wife, Kim, took me to my brother's near Des Moines yesterday afternoon. This morning I got up about 4am and my brother took me to the airport for a 6:45 flight. I changed planes in Houston and arrived in L.A. about 12:30 L.A. time. I lost two hours in time zone changes which made my day longer.

After having lunch with a very good Phoenix, AZ, friend from 40 years ago, I arrived at my hotel, located my bike and box of equipment which I had shipped over a week ago, and now begin the task of getting organized. We have orientation tomorrow and then start riding for Riverside, CA, Sunday morning. My bike appears to have arrived in good condition.

Several of the riders arrived earlier in the week for acclimation - which maybe I should have done. I have met a few of them and they seem pretty much like me so there shouldn't be any problem fitting in.

Bye for now.

It would be a good idea to try and line up a couple of drafting partners for the desert. I think you might me going to get lucky, the weather forecast for Blythe is only 91. Good luck! I'll be cheering for you.

Bob I will be tracking your adventure via this blog. I have been reading the sites that you gave me regarding the other riders. This will give me something to do while I crank up the training for this season. According to another commenter your weather for the desert will be excellent.
