Day 38 - Monday, June 16 - Marysville, OH to Wooster, OH - 97 miles - 5000 feet climbing

We had excellent riding conditions again today for our 98 mile ride to Wooster with a light tailwind and cool temps. The high was 78 today. We did have lots of long steep hills - especially in the last 25 miles. Several of the riders have Garmin GPS units made especially for bicycling. One rider reported a grade of 18% which is quite steep for bicycling.

We encountered this duck crossing sign as we were leaving Marysville.

Paula (CA) checking out the cows and ponies.

This sign warns that horse and buggies may be on the road.

Tree-lined rural roads wound though nice rural residential acreages, hills, and valleys.

At first, we thought this sign was for us.

But soon, in the Frederictown area, we started meeting bicycle riders coming towards us. They were part of GOBA (Great Ohio Bike Adventure) which consists of around 3000 riders riding a loop around Ohio for a week. It reminded me of Iowa's RAGBRAI which has around 10,000 riders.

A GOBA rest stop.

A GOBA bike rally number.

A sign warning of tractors on the road.

That last sign was for real.

We had a "Road Closed - Bridge Out" in our path today but we were able to cross the bridge anyway. Part of the left-hand lane had been undermined by water and had collapsed into the stream.

Tomorrow we will ride 92 miles to Niles, Ohio, - another long day with lots of climbing.
