Today, we also passed the 2000 mile point in our 3400 mile journey.
We stopped to take a look at this "bicycle junk shop" in LaBelle, MO. There were dozens of junky bicycles cabled in front of the shop. Looking in the window we could see boxes and bicycle junk piled floor to ceiling. I have no idea how one could even swing the door open to get inside. The owner must have accessed the building from the rear. L to R are Randy (California), Scott (Virgina), Noreen (Canada), and myself (Iowa).
Some of our roads did have decent shoulders to ride on today - even though they were narrow.
Our destination for today, Quincy, IL - just eleven more miles.
George (England) getting help from our riding mechanic, Rick, in changing a flat. George had a second flat not much further down this same stretch of road.I failed to mention, yesterday, that I had my second flat of the tour. It proved to be caused by shredded tire wire that I had most likely picked up while riding on the western interstate highways. It just took it a while to be driven deep enough into the tire to puncture the tube.
My riding partner for today, Randy from California, had his ninth flat of the tour. Randy has lighter weight tires and tubes than I do which are more susceptible to flats.
Crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois. The crosswinds were quite gusty while crossing the bridge. The river looked quite high and muddy as the Midwest has been deluged with rain the past few weeks.

Route 24E through Quincy passes by many huge mansions. We spoke with the owner of this mansion, who was doing yard work. He said it was built around 1875.

Our ride tomorrow will be 107 miles to Springfield, IL.

Hi Bob: You are having really good weather, considering what we are having in Iowa. Had a bad thunder storm go thru this evening and took our electric power out for 5 hrs. You have been fortunate not to run into these storms. Sure enjoy following you on this trip and seeing your pictures. Jim and Carolyn
Did a 67 mile ride around Brazoria County yesterday. Little bit with a nasty headwind, but all day too hot, 80 at the start and 88 by the end. Keep spinning!
I just happened to come across your article because I had google "bicycles la belle". I was in that area today and got out to see if there where any good frames to make into single sppeds. I walked across the street to see what they knew about them. They said they guy "hairy legs" lives in that place and here's the kicker - only uses the front door. No joke. I beat the hell out of the door hoping to get arise out of him with no luck. That place is jam packed full of bikes and i want some. They say he comes out quite a bit, actually, to ride his bike around with a headset on. I'm going back tomorrow.
